The battle

Yes I call it the battle...meaning the weightloss battle. I have continuoulsy gained weight since husband and I married last September (2009). At first i thought, "Oh I will get back on track" but I haven't and now its almost March and I am still 15 lbs heavier than when I got married. EEEEK!

I swore I wasn't going to be one of those women who just let themselves go because they were married. And now, I am. Its not for lack of trying, though. Since being married I have joined a spin class 2 nights a week and now I am in a run club training for the Vancouver Sun Run.

But alas, fter 1 month of running and spinning....jeans are still tight and things are just not fitting like they use to? So, I have relinquished myself to the fact thats its my eating habits.....and it is. I love wine, I love food and I espcially love wine and food together! Shoot!

I have vowed this week to start a food diary, take note of my eating habits and downsize my wine consumption....which I have to say has been better as my early morning runs cut into my nightly glass of wine.

So my journey begins.....to be back to my pre-wedding weight by April OK April/May.....plus we have a wedding to go to and I HAVE to look good. These people haven't seen me since my wedding!

P.S. Skiing was fantastic....best snow we have seen all year!

After the victory comes the spoils

The first day of work following any type of vacay feels like the first day of work. It takes awhile to get synchronized into working mode.
We enjoyed five days of splendor in the Kootenays, first at a deluxe condo - complete with a hot tub on the deck - perfect setting for an apres ski dip and drink (make mine a caesar) - followed by a day of skiing on Red Mountain and ample amounts of hoppy and grapey liquids.
The next day, we headed for Nelson, relished in the afternoon sun and spent a couple hours soaking and exploring the caves at Ainsworth Hot Springs. After that, there was dinner, playing pool, cigars and dancing at a pub--the type of place you probably wouldn't visit in your hometown. We even helped two women celebrate their birthdays.
The conditions at Whitewater were better than at Red, and the scenery - picture a pair of older-style skilifts and an alpine chalet and restaurant cradled at the base of three mountain peaks amid the blazing sun searing through the clouds. If you're not jealous yet, you need to delve deeper into your imagination.

As much as I can remember of being a 10-year-old zipping up and down the hills at Manning Park, as "The Rossignol Kid" this might have been the topper in comparing ski vacations.

Both of us feel as though our skiing has improved - I know my wife's has - and it was fun to be enjoying our time in the fresh outdoors with two other couples whose company we enjoyed immensely. Whenever we think of hot tubs, wine, dancing with reckless abandon and the chants of "Bilodeau" boucing off of the crestfallen snow, I'll think of our trip to the Koots in 2010.

What happened?

i REMEMBER blogging at least once, (OK, once) since my wife's last post. As a matter of fact, I remember using the word "wifey" at least once. I log on tonight and--nothing since Jan. 21. Bullshyte! I am very upset right now because although I recall very little of my previous post, I spent at least a half hour getting the words down. And, now NOTHING!

In the time expired since her post, we've gone skiing, I had a birthday, drank about 43 cups of joe, 30+ beer, 20 glasses of wine and two glasses of scotch. And there were other things I did, too.

The Olympics are two days off and we decided long ago that rather than head to Vancouver to take in the excitement, being one of those average people that really can't fork out hard-earned hundreds for The Games, we're going to take in some of it at home, in HD, which, admittedly will mean I'll probably watch more than it we did not have HD.

We enjoy The Office because it proves that even incompetents like Michael Scott can rise to positions of authority and because we like to dislike Dwight and, we think Pam and Jim are a great TV couple next to Mike and Carol Brady perhaps.

So... we're back to giving consideration about making a move - somewhere - where we can earn a decent (and I am speaking objectively here) wage rather than being lulled into the doldrums of low wages and a sunshine tax synonymous with the Okanagan. If this were a movie, we'd shrug off the desires of family and friends to travel to some far-off country and carve out a niche for ourselves with the help of a character played by Michael Caine.

Next week at this time, we'll be at Red Mountain in Rossland probably soaking in the hot tub with a bottle of wine on the side. A couple of days there and then off to Nelson and the Whitewater ski resort. Wifey's never been to Nelson so it should be a good time. It's a neat little town especially if the main street is dolloped with snow.

Now, I'm off to bed and will be lulled into a trance by another episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show ...

Disregard my opening paragraph about the missing post. I found it under "drafts." Mea culpa.

Hey! Our dog can surf

It's true. Saw it myself. But not in the conventional sense. Stella - and I've noted this before - can't exactly be described by using the word graceful or nimble but rather clumsy and forcefully awkward. Stella was in her usual perch, lying on top of the blanket while my wife was asleep and when the blanket moved, our little pug was rolling with the undulating motion of the blanket. Most dogs would just bail on snuggling with their owner but not ours.

Total nutball!

My wife's back is buggered--again. But this time, it's worse. She couldn't even sit in the car to drive herself to work, and spent the day prone but that was after the emerg doctor injected her with an anti-inflammatory and sent her off with a prescription for T3s.

Tonight I volunteered to start making this chicken pot pie for tomorrow's dinner but then wifey pulled herself off the couch, brandished a knife and gave me a hand. Not being a natural cook (I do like watching cooking shows), I appreciated this as it cut my prep time in half. All this while we watched "The Biggest Loser."

We're hoping her back heals quickly because we booked an Olympic ski getaway with another couple. I'm sure it will. Besides, it's no fun when she's writhing in pain. And the getaway is taking us away farther away from Vancouver we aren't going to be there. No thank you VANOC.

Right now, I'm watching "Art Mann" presents. He's apparently at the country's largest music festival.
