Thanksgiving Day meets The Godfather trilogy

Yes, It's turkey day in the U.S.A and in between viewing Macy's parade pics, I've been watching The Godfather. Not exactly feel good, Thanksgiving Day material but, then again, the film does depict the Corleone's rise as a typical, Italian mafia family making its way in America and, for that, I celebrate it.
Day three of my week off work, and I'm enjoying the luxury of sitting in bed, sipping my morning coffee touched with a generous dollop of egg nog before I head to the gym for a workout.
I think I'll start to compile our family Christmas list later - among other things - and then inquire as to the status of our new TV; as of yesterday it was on back order. I'm hoping it'll arrive while I've got some time to get it set up and maybe - if I'm really lucky - be able to catch a part of one of the three NFL games on today--my wife will LOVE that.
And speaking of "my wife" I would like to congratulate her for finally staying off Facebook long enough to make her first posting!
Oh! Gotta go! Sounds like the dog is ready for a walk.

Who is the "older" one in the relationship?

Hello dear friends, family, fans, and strangers.......yes it is me....the wife. I am finally blogging my first post. Wow! the first few months of marriage have been a whirlwind. It feels like since we arrived home from our honeymoon; free weekends have been few and far between. Is this something that happens when you get married? Gone are the weekends filled with girlfriends going for coffee, shopping, and ladies night out? Or is it I am just old? For those of you who did not know; my husband is 14 years my senior. So with that being said, you would think that me being the younger one in the relationship, would be loving the constant socializing, shopping, and travelling in our life but alas this is not true. Husband is the one who stays up later than me, makes plans for socializing and rustles me out of bed to get up and "Start the day". He goes to the gym everyday, walks our precious pug and cleans the house on his lunch break.

Since being married I have sliced my finger, thrown my back out, and kinked my neck. Husband recently said to me, "Who is the geriatric one in our relationship?" It is me. I am the one who goes to bed at 9, yearns for weekends filled with a romantic comedy flicks and just spending time together. Who is this person? I am no longer the good time girl I used to be whilst in my 20's. I am married and over 30. This isn't a bad thing, this is me, growing up and getting older.

Happy "almost" 3 month anniversary honey!

Yes, I'd like some mosas, please

I came home tonight to my wife zipping around the kitchen making samosas for work tomorrow. Because she's a terrific cook, who also loves to cook (she really is and she really does) she approaches each meal fearless and without trepidation.

After investing more than two hours making the samosas (7 p.m. PST), carefully folding each meat-stuffed pastry into a tidy triangle, she was halfway to her goal. Next on the menu was some kind of stuffed potato and beef morsels.

... It is now past 8 p.m. and, upon stuffing a dozen taters, she decides to toss another dozen into the microwave because, she says, "This doesn't look like very many. I should make up some more."

Sooooo...... another hour passes, we enjoy a couple of glasses of red wine, and when The Office airs, she's still on the stuffed-tater train, finally finishing at about a quarter after nine.

Being the thoughtful hubby that I am - and I am - most of the time - I at least offer to do the dishes for her.

"Thanks, hun. You're helping me and it isn't even for you. "

Yes, that's true, but I felt like that was the least I could do, after she invested so much time making these wonderful dishes. I really hope her co-workers appreciate and enjoy them. If not, I've already offered for her to bring them home so we can eat them as leftovers, yummm!

Photo albums are as easy as one, two, three ...

Tonight, my wife is busy sorting through a couple hundred photos putting together an iphoto wedding coffee table book with a friend of ours. But even with some of the great apps for putting together the book it still amounts to tedious hours of dragging, dropping and deleting (repeating until satisfied).
Regardless of what anyone says, it is never as easy as one, two, three but the finished product will have been worth the effort. Besides, I really appreciate the amount of time she's invested.
... I'm a tad envious of those who reside in climates where snow does not fall. With winter looming, and having to trek over the Coquihalla and up to the ski hill, we needed to bite the bullet and buy snow tires for our SUV and, wait for it - also for our second car.
Traded in my old snow tires which were in really good condition and excellent in the snow but because of their size (13 inches), there's not much call for them. Bought the other pair at Wally world and , $1,100 later, when winter's wrath seeks to clothe the roadways with its white-washed blanket, we'll be ready :)
Still waiting for my wife to make her first entry. I'm sure it'll happen sometime before Christmas.
Happy Holidays!

Dealing with Post-TV Shopping Stress Syndrome

This post is probably more of interest to any guy who likes watching movies or sports ...

I'm slightly hungover today but it wasn't brought on by wine, beer or generous amounts of any spirits (that was Sunday morning). I'm feeling the after-effects of shopping for the right LCD TV at the right price.
We've done our research and have pretty much narrowed it down to a Sony Bravia. After negoiating with a pretty nice salesperson at one box store he comes back with a price for a 52-inch screen and a stand--$2,030, plus taxes. Original price was about $2,130.
Not bad but still a hefty chunk of change for most people and we are most people, at least some of the time. Once in while I think we're pretty special. So, the salesman, whose just trying to close the deal says "Judging by your reaction, it looked like you were expecting more off the price than I came up with."
Well, sort of, but it was also that two grand is a lot of cash and we would have been buying a stand that we really don't care for--so, spending more money to save money when we could have saved more by purchasing a nicer-looking stand somewhere else. We found another Sony, a 46-inch at another store for the same price as the big box place and they would have it delivered to our city - another plus - so we might go with that and get the stand we really wanted for a couple hundred bucks less somewhere else.
In the end, we burned off almost three hours and came away with nothing other than feelings of mild frustration followed by annoyance at having to come home to our TV and watch it in a split screen format.

My *&%_+* back is killin me!

Last night, we celebrated the fifth anniversary of the day we met--Oct. 31, 3004. We went for dinner to a Greek-Italian restaurant. I had the lamb, and it was fork tender and very good. Our night out was cut short unfortunately, by my wife's excrutiating back pain.
They moved offices at work on Friday, and I guess she overdid things--by failing to heed the advice: "lift with your legs and not your back." She's so stiff, she's struggling to walk, and is doubled over like Mr. Burns... I feel bad for her.
Anyway, we were home early, she put the heating pad on and popped back pills which provided little, if any relief. Today, with an extra hour's sleep to her credit, she managed better but remains quite stiff.
Trooper that she is, she managed to make a terrific barley soup for dinner. We watched "The Proposal" and capped the evening off with a glass of wine and a generous slice of chocolate cake.
Mmmm! Chocolate cake.
